If you’ve been considering independent living, by now you’ve likely heard about all the benefits – the freedom, the amenities, the convenience, the focus on wellbeing, and the fun. It sounds amazing, right? But, are you still left wondering what daily life in independent living would really be like? We can help by sharing what you can expect and what our residents have to say!

A Typical Day in Independent Living

One of the benefits of life in an independent living community is that you’re in charge of exactly how you want to spend your time. We make it easy to enjoy life to its fullest with maintenance-free living as well as a range of amenities, events and activities from which to choose. Here’s what a typical day might look like.

Morning

You’ll wake in your lovely, spacious apartment which you’ve chosen specifically from a variety of different floor plans. Then grab breakfast in your full kitchen and enjoy it on your balcony or in your sunroom while planning your day.

You decide to get in a morning workout and head over to the state-of-the-art fitness center for one of our senior fitness classes and maybe a swim in the indoor, heated pool. On your way, you stop to chat with some of your neighbors who’ve become close friends and one of them decides to join you.

Afternoon

The bus leaves for the Ladies Lunch Trip at noon so you make sure to be ready. Cornhole starts in the Community Room at 2 p.m., but if you don’t make it back in time there’s always next week. Besides, it might be nice to spend the afternoon relaxing in the outdoor pavilion. There’s a reason you chose a place in the heart of the Blue Ridge mountains – it’s beautiful!

You return to your apartment to find the onsite pharmacy has delivered your medication refills and remember to call to schedule your appointment at the onsite hair salon for later this week.

Evening

You’re off to dinner with friends at Club Friendship, the restaurant and bar on campus, where you enjoy your choice of freshly prepared menu options such as salads, sandwiches, subs, or an entrée with two sides.

After you remember to return the latest best-seller you read to the campus library, then it’s off to movie night in the community room where they’re playing one of your favorites! You don’t want to be out too late though because your crafting group meets tomorrow morning.

"When I walked through the front doors of Friendship I knew I was home. You can be as busy or as not busy as you want. When I moved in, I felt like I was at a family reunion, meeting family members I had yet to know. There has been no second-guessing of my decision to move to Friendship.”
-Patricia J.
