What is a CCRC? The acronym CCRC stands for continuing care retirement community. This type of community offers a continuum of care that includes independent living, assisted living, and memory care on the same campus.  

Many people don’t realize that some CCRCs require a buy-in, also known as an entry fee, in addition to your monthly fee. While often considered a down payment for higher levels of care you may need down the road, this upfront fee can run into the six figures. Although we realize that most families simply don’t have this kind of budget, another option exists. Here’s how to enjoy a senior living continuum of care without the CCRC fee.

A Rental Model for The Senior Living Continuum of Care  

At Friendship, we take a different approach. While we offer a senior living continuum of care, there’s no buy-in fee. Instead, we use a rental model, meaning you simply pay a monthly fee based on the level of care you receive. The cost does increase as your care needs increase. However, your monthly fee typically includes the following*:

• Home maintenance
• Social activities
• Some utilities
• Security

*Other benefits, like dining services and housekeeping are included as you progress through the continuum of care.

The main benefit of a rental model is the flexibility of not being locked into a long-term contract yet still having access to a senior living continuum of care that includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, long-term care, inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatient therapy on our campuses.
