Amber's journey began more than a decade ago through Friendship's Student Nursing Assistant Program. Today she leads an entire nursing team while continuing to care for residents with the same passion that first inspired her to enter healthcare.

For students and those considering a career change, the Student Nursing Assistant Program provides more than classroom instruction. Participants learn the fundamentals of caregiving while gaining real-world experience alongside experienced healthcare professionals.

Students receive education on activities of daily living, anatomy, and resident care while practicing essential clinical skills such as repositioning residents, personal care, nail care, and other hands-on techniques in a supportive environment.

Friendship also helps remove financial barriers by offering scholarship opportunities and tuition assistance, allowing many caregivers to continue advancing their education long after completing the program.

For Amber, those opportunities became the foundation of an entire career.

Leading With Heart

Although Amber now oversees nursing operations, her favorite part of each day isn't behind a desk.

Every morning, after attending admissions meetings and reviewing clinical updates, she walks each nursing unit. She intentionally visits resident rooms—not simply to check on their care, but to make personal connections.

Just as importantly, she checks in with employees.

"I try to stop at every resident's room," Amber explains. "Making sure they're smiling, they're happy, and also making sure the staff know they're appreciated and valued."

That leadership style reflects Friendship's belief that exceptional resident care begins with supporting the people who provide it.

Nursing Is About People

Technical skills can be taught.

Compassion cannot.

When asked what advice she gives someone considering nursing, Amber doesn't start by talking about medicine or procedures.

She talks about empathy.

"You have to be compassionate," she says. "Don't just treat the resident like they're a patient. Treat them as a person."

Those words perfectly capture Friendship's philosophy of person-centered care.

"The culture is very positive," she says. "A lot of people have jobs that they do not like to go to. The staff here come to work because they love working here."

She adds, "There are always good and bad days, but when the good outweigh the bad, that's when you know you've found the right place to work."
