Friendship Awards Inaugural Seniors for Seniors Scholarships
This year, we were proud to launch our inaugural Seniors for Seniors Scholarship — a program that celebrates the meaningful relationship between high school seniors and the older adults who enrich our community. Friendship Independent Living residents served as the committee that selected three remarkable high school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, service, and a deep respect for older adults.

Emily Tull — Cave Spring High School
With an outstanding 4.04 GPA, Emily has already built an impressive record of achievement through volleyball, golf, DECA, Key Club, FCA, and extensive volunteer service throughout the community.
What resonated most with the resident committee, however, was her thoughtful essay on the perceptions of aging. Emily wrote with wisdom, compassion, and a genuine respect for older adults that reflected maturity far beyond her years. Her ability to recognize the value, dignity, and experiences of older generations made her a standout recipient.

His essay, centered on lessons learned from older adults, deeply moved the committee. Through his experiences and reflections, Rawlin demonstrated sincere respect for seniors and an appreciation for the wisdom that comes with age. His character, service, and thoughtful perspective made a lasting impression on our residents.

Rylee McNeill — Salem High School
Rylee earned recognition for her outstanding 4.017 GPA and extensive involvement in volunteer work through Keyettes and Girl Scouts, along with participation in lacrosse, soccer, student council, and DECA. She was also recognized as a Spartan 7 honoree.
In her essay, Rylee reflected on the lessons she has learned from older adults and shared a beautiful realization — that growing older can also mean growing in joy, passion, and love. Her heartfelt perspective and commitment to serving others captured the true purpose of the scholarship.

A Special Thank You to Our Resident Committee
This scholarship would not have been possible without the thoughtful dedication of our resident committee members: Gail, Martha, Leslie, and James.
These residents devoted significant time and care to reading applications, reflecting on essays, and thoughtfully selecting students who truly embody the mission behind the Seniors for Seniors Scholarship. Their insight, compassion, and commitment helped ensure the recipients chosen not only excel academically, but also understand the value of honoring and learning from older generations.
At Friendship, we are proud to celebrate these exceptional students and the meaningful intergenerational connections that continue to inspire our community every day.
