Celebrating National Assisted Living Week at Friendship

From September 13–19, Friendship communities will celebrate National Assisted Living Week with activities that honor the people, relationships and experiences that make assisted living feel like home.

Assisted living is much more than a building or a level of care. It is a community where neighbors become friends, team members feel like family and every resident has opportunities to remain active, connected and engaged. National Assisted Living Week gives us a special opportunity to celebrate that spirit.

This year’s “Shining Through the Years” theme will come to life across Friendship’s assisted living communities through nostalgic activities, entertainment and opportunities for residents to share their talents and stories.

At Friendship Assisted Living, residents will travel through the decades with a senior talent show, 1960s music, Route 66 root beer floats and a 1950s drive-in diner lunch. The celebration will conclude with vintage cars, a photo opportunity and music from DJ Joe.

Residents at The Oaks will enjoy “Stories That Shine” and “Talent That Shines,” along with a 1970s game, visits from therapy pet Birdie and a “Shining Together” cider and doughnut social. Other highlights include a 1950s diner and jukebox lunch, a display of residents’ baby pictures and a star-studded movie afternoon.

The Joseph C. Thomas Center will celebrate with themed dress-up days, including Tie-Dye Day, Flower Power Day, Rock Star Day and Red Carpet Attire. Residents can enjoy a Grandparents Day performance by LEAP dancers, an ice cream truck, a sunflower festival, an evening concert under the stars and a red-carpet premiere of the “Downton Abbey Wish.”

While the week is filled with music, food and fun, its deeper purpose is to recognize the lives and contributions of assisted living residents—and the dedicated team members who help them live fully each day.

At Friendship, assisted living is not simply where someone receives support. It is where life continues to be celebrated, friendships grow and new memories are made. Most importantly, it is home.
