What can you expect life to be like as a senior living resident? Hint: It’s much more than spending your days playing bingo. And, it differs by the type of senior living in which you reside – independent living, assisted living, – so your lifestyle is tailored to your needs and wants at this point in life. From art classes to fitness to socializing to care, here are examples of a typical day in our community.

What Senior Living Residents Can Expect In Independent Living

The truth is, there’s not really a ‘typical’ day in independent living because each resident determines exactly how they want to spend their time. Plus, with maintenance-free living and all the options we offer, you have plenty of time to enjoy each day to its fullest!

Depending on which of the 26 spacious apartment floor plans you’ve chosen you might start your day grabbing breakfast in your kitchen before heading to your balcony or sunroom to enjoy it. Then, head to our state-of-the-art fitness center for a morning workout or swim in the indoor, heated pool.

In the afternoon, you could attend a presentation where one of our residents will share stories about his travels in the Amazon. After, you might spend some time relaxing in the outdoor pavilion enjoying the view of the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains before your appointment at our onsite hair salon.

For dinner, it’s off to Bistro ‘66, our dining venue whose name harkens to the year our community opened.  There you will enjoy your choice of freshly prepared menu options such as salads, sandwiches, subs, or an entrée with delicious sides. Then, head over to movie night with friends in the community room where they’re playing one of your favorite classics!

Daily Life in Assisted Living

Our senior living residents in assisted living enjoy the freedom to live life on their own terms. With our specialized care program, it’s easy as you’ll have as much, or as little, support as you need to empower your independence.

After waking in your private or semi-private residence, you’ll get ready for the day either independently or with help from one of our team members. Then, enjoy breakfast in the beautiful dining room that features a cozy two-sided fireplace!  With housekeeping coming to tidy up, you head out to enjoy some Chair Zumba with our fun and inspiring volunteers.

On the bus ride back from the lunch outing with friends to your favorite local restaurant in downtown Roanoke Valley, you decide to spend the afternoon nurturing your green thumb in our resident vegetable gardens.

Once home, you realize your prescriptions will be delivered from the onsite pharmacy within the half hour. Not hungry after that big lunch, you opt for a healthy snack before heading off to the Sing-A-Long that evening.

How Senior Living Residents Spend Their Day in Memory Care

Our memory care program is based on the latest Alzheimer’s disease and dementia research and is exclusively designed for senior living residents with those specific needs. It features specially-trained staff and 24/7 support in a setting that’s secure, yet comfortable.

Dementia affects everyone differently and our flexible care plans allow each resident’s day to be filled with support and activities that reflect their needs and capabilities while keeping their overall wellbeing in mind. Each morning, one of our dedicated team members helps residents with needs like dressing and bathing in addition to medication and eating as needed throughout the day.

During the day residents have opportunities for mental stimulation, social connection, and physical activity. For example, they might spend the morning pursuing creative outlets with art and music activities.

In the afternoon they might spend time in our Wander Garden, a fenced-in, landscaped outdoor patio with lush walkways and a sunlit gazebo, in small groups to enjoy nature and get exercise. Or, they might attend a pet therapy session on our memory care patio that features beautiful mountain views.
