Friendship Health Opens New Inpatient Rehab Facility

Rehabilitation facility brings award winning care, innovative design, and private rooms to southwest Roanoke County.

ROANOKE, Va. (March 24, 2016) –Rehabilitation services in southwest Roanoke County have received a major upgrade with the opening of Friendship Health’s new, state-of-the-art facility, Rehab South, located at 5647 Starkey Road in southwest Roanoke County. The 73,000 square foot, 120-bed facility, shaped for specialized therapy and rehabilitative services, also has a unique ambiance to make a patient’s stay more comfortable.

Features including all private rooms, exquisite dining, state-of-the art therapy pool and gym, landscaped gardens for healing, open air community rooms filled with natural light, and family-friendly design all add to this more intimate feel. Additional highlights of the new healthcare facility include the private patient room accommodations and state-of-the-art therapy equipment such as the heated therapy pool with an aquatic treadmill to service patients for their specialized rehab needs.

Since opening its first building five decades ago, Friendship and its staff of skilled professionals have grown to meet the demands of this region. “We are excited to be able to bring this level of rehabilitative care to Southwest Roanoke County,” says Russ Barksdale, President and CEO of Friendship. “This means that the citizens here and in the surrounding areas now will have access to the highest level of rehabilitative skilled nursing care available without having to leave the area.”

“This new facility is unique in that the small, intimate, upscale center has been designed specifically for persons who need only a short-term rehabilitative stay prior to returning to their home,” explained Jessica Walters, administrator at Friendship Health – Rehab South. “Most patients stay anywhere from 3 to 14 days, with the longest being 30 days. These persons needing only a short-term stay will be able to enjoy a more intimate setting, completely separate from persons needing long term care.”

Friendship Health – Rehab South will offer skilled and immediate nursing care, post-acute care, inpatient physical, speech and occupational rehabilitation, plus specialized cardiac, orthopedic and neuro-muscular care. The award-winning skilled nursing and long-term care facility offers superb service through their therapists, nurses and physicians that take a team approach when caring for every patient. With regularly scheduled care plan meetings with residents and families, staff play a vital role in providing support and reassurance. Friendship Health – Rehab South will begin admitting patients the week of April 4.
