ROANOKE, Va. (March 5, 2009) – Friendship Retirement Community was recognized with the United Way’s highest honor, Spirit of Community Award
This award, presented in front of 300 business and community leaders, is presented to a company for exhibiting outstanding year-round support of the United Way and the community through corporate giving, employee and leadership giving campaigns, corporate sponsorships, supporting special events, encouraging volunteerism among employees, and community-building activities.
Stan Huffman, CEO of Friendship, accepted the award on behalf of Friendship. “I am very proud of everyone at Friendship,” he said. “Our staff continues to demonstrate their commitment not only to the residents we serve, but to the Roanoke Valley community as well.”
This award puts Friendship in good company, with previous winners being Norfolk Southern Corporation, Kroger Mid-Atlantic, and Carilion, to name a few.
Friendship raised nearly $80,000 for its 2008 campaign, an increase of more than $5,000 from the previous year. At a time when donations and corporate giving are down, this is truly a testament to Friendship’s commitment to the Roanoke Valley.
