Keysa Sexton of Friendship's Eastwood Assisted Living has been certified as an Activity Professional. The Activity Professional Training Program trains students to provide a well-rounded activity program for residents in long-term care, adult day programs, retirements homes, and senior centers. The program teaches students how to meet the psychosocial and physical needs of the elderly through a varied activity program.
Admission into the Activity Professional Training Program means you have made the commitment to learn the knowledge and skills that will enable you to promote better and more meaningful lives for the elderly and disabled.
With this certification, Sexton has learned to focus more on what is right with a person rather than what is wrong. "It puts you in a position to really make a difference in the lives of those you serve" she said. "The sky is the limit on what you can accomplish and your creativity will have a wide opportunity for use. It is a profession that allows for great flexibility in defining your work and in utilizing your skills and talents. Above all, it will enable me to implement more programs focusing on a variety of disabilities throughout the facility and sharing the knowledge with staff and volunteers by promoting respect, comfort, dignity, patience and lots of laughter."
